Chocolate Avocado Smoothie
Did you know that cocoa and avocados are considered superfoods?
And they just happen to be two of my favorite ingredients, so of course I had to mix them together to make a chocolate avocado smoothie.
This chocolate avocado smoothie is packed with healthy ingredients.
It's smooth, creamy, and rich and it makes the perfect breakfast smoothie or post-workout smoothie.
I usually blend this chocolate avocado smoothie recipe up for both - but not in the same day.
This chocolate avocado smoothie is really thick, like almost as thick as pudding. It's from the avocado.
You can reduce the amount of avocado or increase the almond milk if you like your smoothies on the thinner side.
If you like an icier chocolate avocado smoothie you can reduce the avocado, and increase the ice and almond milk.
If you don't use almond milk, that's okay. You can use your milk of choice in this avocado smoothie recipe.
The great thing about this smoothie recipe is that it's pretty versatile, so you can adjust the ingredients if needed, to your liking.
Ingredients in Chocolate Avocado Smoothie
Almond Milk - We like to use almond milk, but you can use any milk you like.
Ice - If you use frozen avocado, or frozen banana, you may not need ice.
Avocado - Add flavor and vitamins and helps create that smooth, creamy texture.
Cocoa Powder - For flavor and to give this smoothie a chocolate boost.
Banana - Add flavor and vitamins and helps create that smooth, creamy texture.
Honey - Adds flavor and sweetness. You can also use maple syrup, or your sweetener of choice
Vanilla Extract - Omit if using vanilla flavored almond milk. Vanilla adds extra flavor and sweetness.

Avocado Banana Smoothie
This avocado smoothie is also known as an avocado banana smoothie because it has banana in it. The banana helps with the texture and adds flavor and extra vitamins.
Chocolate Avocado Pudding
You can use the base chocolate avocado smoothie recipe to make chocolate avocado pudding.
Simply omit the ice and add in double the amount of avocado called for.
If you like your chocolate avocado pudding extra thick, you can also reduce the amount of almond milk by half.
How to tell if avocado is ripe
Avocados are hard when they are not ripe. If an avocado is ripe, it will give a little or feel softer when you put pressure on it.
Avocados tend to ripen from the bottom up to the stem. Feel the bottom of the avocado first.
Chocolate Avocado Smoothie Add-ins:
- 1 scoop of plain or vanilla protein powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon nut butter (almond, peanut, etc.)
We like to mix it up every once in a while and add peanut butter or protein powder. Feel free to add in your favorite smoothie add-in ingredients.
Tips for making smoothies:
Always put the liquid into the blender first. This will help keep the blender from jamming up.
Omit the ice if you are using frozen ingredients, like a frozen chopped banana. Then add ice until you get your desired consistency.
If your smoothie calls for two or more types of fruit, don’t use all frozen fruit otherwise the liquid will freeze the fruit and the blender will jam up.
If you like a thinner smoothie, add more water, milk, or dairy-free milk.
If you like a thicker smoothie, add more fresh or frozen fruit. Don’t add more ice.
For a sweeter smoothie, add additional sweet fruits or add a tablespoon of honey, agave, or maple syrup.
These tips are for all smoothies, not just this chocolate avocado smoothie.
You can use fresh or frozen avocados in this chocolate avocado smoothie. You can also use fresh or frozen banana.
Just make sure to add in enough vanilla milk to get the smoothie consistency.
